Vision
OMCHEF will be an ecologically conscious, rural agrarian intentional community striving for sustainable self-subsistence. Our community will be comprised of individual homesteads and dormitory style dwellings that will share common land, agriculture and resources. We will integrate sustainable community businesses that support the community and are operated by its members. We strive for egalitarianism and will make homesteads equally accessible through purchase, rent or scholarship. Our intent is to foster a pro-social culture by creating a healthy social environment whose work benefits the community as a whole, which in turn, benefits the individual. We believe that food, shelter, clothing, education and medical care are basic human rights and that equal access to all will allow us to flourish as individuals. We believe that we can live more fulfilling lives together than we can separately and that taking care of each other and the earth equates to caring for ourselves. We commit to non-violent conflict resolution and foster diversity of our members and diversity of our members’ practices of our shared vision. We value freedom from oppression, which allows progress towards our shared vision with individual self-expression, empowerment and compassionate and cooperative relating. We research, learn, practice and promote models for community living that are environmentally, socially and economically sustainable and evidence-based. As we learn, our paradigm is always evolving in order to improve the quality of life for present and future generations. We promote educational outreach to make these ideas accessible to all.
